The tetramethylolmethane, commercial name pentaerythritol, is a polyalcohol containing four primary alcoholic groups symmetrically bound to an atom of carbon. It is a white, water-soluble crystalline powder, with slightly sweet taste. Polyalcohols in fact are also called sugar alcohols because of close relationship with simple sugars.
